Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is the first new international airport built for Sydney in decades — and the first ever built in Western Sydney. From opening day on 25 October 2026, the announced airlines are Jetstar from 25 October 2026, Air New Zealand from 26 October 2026, Singapore Airlines from 23 November 2026 and Qantas from 28 March 2027.
For the west, the change is large: Penrith is about 58 km by road from Sydney Airport (55–75 min) but about 24 km from WSI (25–35 min). For everyone else, WSI's curfew-free schedule opens flight times Kingsford Smith simply can't offer. Either way, the transfer works the same: fixed fare, door to terminal, flight tracked.

WSI Link — free
A free shuttle between St Marys station and the terminal, every 30 minutes: 4.30am to midnight Sunday to Thursday, 4.30am to 1am Friday and Saturday. It starts once passenger flights begin on 25 October 2026. It runs until Sydney Metro services start.
There is no train to WSI at opening. The Sydney Metro line to the airport will not be open when passenger flights begin. Until it opens, the rail connection is St Marys station plus the free WSI Link shuttle. Transport for NSW has not published an opening date for the Metro line.
Taxis, rideshare and parking
When the airport opens, dedicated taxi ranks and rideshare pick-up zones will be available directly outside the terminal.

Road access is via the toll-free M12 Motorway, connecting to the M7 Motorway at Cecil Hills and The Northern Road at Luddenham.
So when is a booked transfer actually the right answer? When you're travelling with luggage a bus doesn't suit, when your flight lands at 2am and the shuttle has stopped, when there are more of you than a taxi holds, or when you want the price fixed before you go. When does Western Sydney International open?
WSI opens to passengers on 25 October 2026. The airlines announced for its first months are Jetstar from 25 October 2026, Air New Zealand from 26 October 2026, Singapore Airlines from 23 November 2026 and Qantas from 28 March 2027.
Where exactly is WSI?
At Badgerys Creek in Sydney's west, about 61 km by road from the Sydney CBD (55–80 min). It is much closer for parts of Western Sydney: Penrith is about 24 km by road (25–35 min) and Liverpool about 25 km (25–40 min).
Does WSI have a curfew?
No. Kingsford Smith has an 11pm to 6am curfew, which limits overnight movements; WSI is curfew-free, so it can take flights at hours Sydney Airport cannot. Overnight operations there are a separate approval, intended from 1 November 2026 rather than opening day.
Are there domestic and international terminals?
WSI has a single integrated terminal serving both domestic and international flights — no terminal transfers, one drop-off, one pickup point for everything.
